Race description

Kia Fjällmaraton 45K is a demanding mountain marathon over classic mountain terrain, held during Fjällmaraton Week in the Åre area. The race dates back to 2005, and for 2026, the course is planned to go over Ottfjället along the organizer's signature trail. The event welcomes both experienced mountain runners and curious beginners seeking an unusual and scenic challenge. To earn the well-known wooden medal, you must finish within the "medal time" (winner's time + 30%); all participants must be self-sufficient on the course.

Highlights

  • The course goes over Ottfjället on classic mountain terrain
  • Food and water stations at Edsåsdalen (12 km, 25 km), Tobaksdalen (35.5 km), and Hållvallen (40 km)
  • Finish in Ottsjö with a communal post-race lunch for all finishers

Additional information

Participants must be self-sufficient on the course; the official hydration product at stations is Umara (2:1 lemon, 120 g/l). Water and toilets are available at the start in Trillevallen. Support along the course is not allowed beyond the official stations. The stations offer, in addition to drinks, bars, bananas, buns, and at later stations, hot sausages, coffee, and broth. The race is approximately 45 km long with about 1200 meters of elevation gain (according to race reports). Participants are self-sufficient between aid stations; official hydration and food stations are located at Edsåsdalen, Tobaksdalen, and Hållvallen. Kia offers free mountain transfer between the finish and parking, as well as bus transport between the finish and Undersåker/Åre, and accommodation in Åre near Kia Fjällmaraton, including Hotel Åre Fjällsätra.
