Björnfrossa Ultramarathon

Björnfrossa Ultramarathon is a scenic but challenging trail race of approximately 65 km through the bear country of Gästrikland, starting and finishing at Kungsberget recreation facility. The course mainly follows the Gästrikeleden, Lenåsleden and Fäbodleden trails, with technical trails, gravel roads, several beautiful viewpoints and approximately 1,200 m of total elevation gain. The race is organized by the Björnfrossa organizing association and has strong local roots—the idea was born in 2017 among a group of runners from Sandviken. Runners of all levels who want to experience the region’s long-distance running scenery are welcome, but the race is not sanctioned.

Cutoff time: 12 hours. Four staffed aid stations along the course with water, sports drink and light refreshments; trash bags are available for rubbish. Race bibs are handed out at the start area and must be worn visibly throughout the race. Drop-bag service is not available—anything you want to bring must be carried from the start. Recommended equipment: a mobile phone with a map and an emergency number, which will be announced later; there are no formal equipment requirements, but be prepared for several hours between stations. Medical staff are available at the start/finish; runners are responsible for themselves out on the course, and in an emergency call 112.
